I love this smoke & fume absorber! I do alot of lead soldering in my stained glass shop. Previously, I used a regular fan to pull away the fumes and smoke, which did NOT work very well. This device works great, it is small but powerful, removes all smoke and fumes, quiet, attractive in my shop, is sturdy and sets on the countertop rather than being elevated like some. A perfect addition, a great value. I highly recommend!

5.0 out of 5 stars Glad I spent $35 and not $140!

So, I was going to buy the $140 Hakko fume extractor but saw good reviews for this unit. I ordered this, received the next morning, melted some solder onto a new tip with this turned on and it pulled the fumes away instantly. I would say the optimal distance is anywhere from 4"-9" away. Anything more than that it will still get most of the fumes but not everything.
I do video game console repairs and the work comes and goes so since I'm not soldering for hours a day every day, more like 2x-4x per week this made more sense to purchase.
Glad I did, works very well. If needed I may get a second one to place on the other side of my work area to cover both sides. But that will be a decision I'll make later.
